Optibus is expanding into real-time data with the acquisition of Datik, a transportation technology company based in Basque Country, Spain, and formerly owned by Irizar group.

The move will see Datik collaborate with Optibus’ R&D and product teams on the development and launch of B2B and B2G SaaS products in the fields of passenger information, control and monitoring, safety, and operations, Optibus announces. The Israeli tech company is pursuing the goal of becoming the industry’s ultimate all-in-one digital operating system.

Optibus has recently signed a supply partnership with Volvo Buses. Its transit software has been adopted by 5,000 cities worldwide (growing 5-fold in 2 years).

Optibus takes over Datik

Headquartered in San Sebastian, Spain, Datik has worked with more than one hundred transportation companies, primarily in Europe and Mexico, to ensure driver and passenger safety and to help operators to meet and surpass service agreements with public authorities and agencies. Their predictive, real-time technology prevents thousands of vehicle accidents, enhances service frequency, accessibility, and on-time performance, and reduces passenger wait times and service disruptions.

By integrating Datik’s data sets into Optibus’ software platform as a sophisticated real-time intelligence layer, Optibus enhances the capability of its artificial intelligence (AI) to predict operational and service outcomes for operators and agencies, the Israeli company points out.

The acquisition reinforces Optibus’ commitment to innovating public transportation through technological research, partnerships, and acquisitions and advances the company’s mission to offer the industry’s ultimate all-in-one digital operating system.

Real-time visibility into traffic conditions, service disruptions, safety incidents, and more enables public transportation providers to respond immediately to problems and mitigate them as they arise. The result is a smoother passenger experience, better work conditions for drivers, and seamless, data-driven workflows for planners and schedulers.
